PROCESS OF SENDING MIGRANTS TO OTHER STATES STARTS

Ludhiana, May 5, 2020: Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal have informed that in view of the ongoing curfew/lockdown due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic, the process of sending migrants to their home states have started. In this regard, the first train carrying around 900 migrants from Uttar Pradesh would leave from Railway Station Ludhiana today.

He informed that the Punjab government is already in touch with governments of other states for sending their residents in a safe manner. He informed that request was sent to the Uttar Pradesh government and in today’s train, around 900 migrants would leave for Prayagraj (Allahabad) in train from Railway Station Ludhiana.

The Deputy Commissioner clarified that only those migrants would get benefit of this facility, who have applied on web portal, www.covidhelp.punjab.gov.in only. He informed that till today afternoon, around 5.10 lakh people from other states have applied for going to their home states. He informed that all states have appointed nodal officers for this purpose, who are in constant touch with each other. He informed that the persons who have applied on the government portal, the District Administration has sent them a message on their mobile numbers (mentioned at the time of registration). He stated that people who have not applied, would not be allowed to leave, and the registration is a must.

Mr Agrawal informed that in future also, the District Administration would send message to such persons, who have registered themselves at government portal www.covidhelp.punjab.gov.in, about the date and place where they have to reach for the start of their journey back home. He said that proper screening of all migrants is being done in Ludhiana, and people who are medically fit, would be allowed to travel. He said that during travel, the passengers would be made to strictly follow social distancing.

He appealed to the migrants to assist the district administration in this regard, so that they can reach their home states safely. He said that if they do not assist the district administration, then it might delay their travel plans, so they should wait for their turn.

A migrant named Vikas Kumar, who was excited to travel to Prayagraj, thanked the Punjab government for facilitating their journey back home. He said that when the curfew/lockdown ends, he would certainly return to Ludhiana, because it is like his second home, and the financial condition of his family depends on his job in Ludhiana. Several other migrants also thanked the Punjab government for their arrangements.

It is pertinent to mention that for today’s train, an SMS was sent to around 1200 migrants, but only around 900 came forward and the remaining 300 chose to stay back as several industries have started their operations and have gone back to their jobs. Such persons thanked the Punjab government because they have got back their jobs now.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that till date, 3454 samples have been taken in the district, out of which report of 3105 has been received, and 2963 samples were negative. He informed that till date, 124 samples (all related to district Ludhiana) have been found positive, while 18 are from other districts, eight patients have been fully cured, and unfortunately five persons have lost their lives. He said that at present, there are 111 active patients of Ludhiana district.

He said that all the employees of the District Administration are working tirelessly for the safety of residents. He urged the residents to stay indoors and follow all directions of the Punjab government if they want to contribute in the fight against COVID 19. On this occasion, he also took stock of the arrangements at Bus Stand, from where the migrants would be taken to the Railway Station in buses. He was also accompanied by Commissioner of Police Mr Rakesh Kumar Agrawal, MC Commissioner Mrs Kanwal Preet Kaur Brar, besides several others.

OUT OF TOTAL EXPECTED 135 LMT, PUNJAB SUCCESSFULLY PROCURES OVER 90 LMT IN JUST 19 DAYS- BHARAT BHUSHAN ASHU

CONGRATULATES AND THANKS ALL STAKEHOLDERS FOR SMOOTH PROCUREMENT OPERATIONS AMID COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

PUNJAB GOVERNMENT  PUMPS IN RS. 10000 CRORE INTO THE STATE'S  AGRARIAN ECONOMY

REITERATES RESOLVE TO PROCURE EVERY SINGLE GRAIN OF FARMERS IN A HASSLE FREE MANNER

CHANDIGARH, MAY 3, 2020: Punjab Food & Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Sunday said that despite several challenges arising out of lockdown/curfew amid COVID-19 restrictions, the State has successfully procured more than 90 lakh metric tonne of wheat in 19 days, out of a total expected 135 LMT.

Congratulating the state's farmers, Arthiyas, labour and other stakeholders for smooth conduct of ongoing procurement operations across the state, Mr. Ashu informed that Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was strictly maintaining social distancing in all more than 4000 purchase centres for the health safety and well-being of those involved in this gigantic task. He said that it was a matter of great satisfaction that in just 19 days the state has successfully procured over 90 LMT of wheat despite several obstacles including shortage of labour and closure of jute mills.

Reiterating the resolve of the state Government to ensure purchase of every single grain of state farmers produce in a hassle-free manner, the Minister also pointed out that in these difficult times more than 4000 purchase centres had been established as compared to over 1800 in 2019 with same strength of employees for the facilitation of farmers. Besides, the State Government has also made elaborate arrangements including issuance of tokens to farmers, requisite sanitizers, masks, foot operated water tanks etc.

Nevertheless, the scarcity of labour amid lockdown and curfew, Punjab Government has loaded a record 25.77 LMT of wheat and rice  through 1031 special trains so far in order to ensure food security of the nation besides assisting the other states said the Minister adding that it was 44% of the total foodgrains supplied, nation-wide.

On the lifting front, Mr. Ashu mentioned that the State was also lifting more than 5 LMT daily in order to ensure that no farmer had to wait due to space crunch in mandis. The Minister said that in these times of economic crisis, the State Government has infused its agrarian economy with Rs. 10000 Crore so far.  He categorically said that there was no derth of  Bardana despite the closure of jute mills as the State had already made alternate arrangements of PP bags and once used bales in this regard.

Extending gratitude to the Food Corporation of India for its untiring efforts to ensure food security in the nation, Mr. Ashu also reiterated  Punjab would ensure that no one should be deprived of food amid the battle against COVID-19. He said that Punjab was playing key role in feeding the nation whether it be distribution of wheat and dal under PMGKY or distribution of dry ration packets to migrant labour and other persons in need.

CAPT AMARINDER DIRECTS ACS DEVELOPMENT TO ENSURE ABUNDANT HIGH-QUALITY MAIZE SEEDS TO DOUBLE AREA UNDER MAIZE PRODUCTION

Chandigarh, May 1, 2020: In line with his government’s decision to double the area under maize cultivation from this Kharif season, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday directed ACS Development Viswajeet Khanna ensure abundant supply of certified varieties of maize seed, duly approved by the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, to the famers.

The state government has decided to increase the area under maize cultivation from 3.95 lakh acres last year to 7.41 lakh acres in this season, with the twin objective of shifting towards water resistant alternate crops to conserve the fast depleting ground water and coping with the shortage of labour amid Covid-19.

It may be recalled that the Punjab Government had earlier set a goal to enhance the area under cotton cultivation from 9.7 lakh acres to 12.5 lakh acres in the state during the Kharif-2020-21, as part of its ambitious crop diversification programme.

Khanna apprised the Chief Minister, who also holds the Agriculture portfolio, that all the requisite arrangements were in place to provide nearly 6000 tonnes of hi-yield maize seed from the country’s renowned seed producing companies as per PAU’s recommendations.  All the Chief Agriculture Officers at district level, along with other departmental officers/officials at block level, had been asked to further intensify their efforts in motivating the farmers to achieve the desired target set by the state government by shifting from the conventional, water-guzzling paddy crop, he added.

Moreover, the cultivation of maize would help the state combat the scarcity of migratory labour amid Covid-19, said Khanna, adding that in the present circumstances, the chances of farmer opting for alternate crops like maize and cotton were higher.
